A video of the last moments of the doomed Air India Flight 171 could offer new insight into why it crashed. This new video indicates that the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8's Ram Air Turbine (RAT) was deployed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad in western India. The RAT is an emergency device that activates only under extreme circumstances like total engine or power failure. And the new video distinctly captures the turbine’s high-pitched sound. But neither time nor altitude was available to the pilots of flight AI-171.
