Acanthamoeba more widespread in Kerala’s waterbodies than thought earlier

In 2013, research by a Regional Institute of Ophthalmology Associate Professor had established that the glut of unhealing corneal ulcers was amoebic keratitis caused by Acanthamoeba and the source of infection was household wells. There are no documented cases of a person with Acanthamoeba keratitis developing meningoencephalitis directly through spread from the eye to the brain
